European Qualifications: ECP & EAP
As a member or prospective affiliate of the Irish Group Analytic Society (IGAS), your pathways are connected to the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP) and the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP).
With the evolution of hybrid and online therapy practices, holding European-level credentials provides significant advantages for practicing across international borders without traditional geographical limits.
For Existing Fully Accredited IGAS Members
The ICP acts as the National Awarding Organisation (NAO) for the European Certificate of Psychotherapy (ECP) in Ireland and is responsible for conferring this certificate on behalf of the EAP.
Important Note: ECP certification is not automatic upon achieving your IGAS/ICP registration. It is an additional credential that requires an application via your accrediting body and an ICP processing fee of €300.
Application Pathways:
- Direct Award (DA): This path applies if you completed your training directly through one of the designated European Accredited Psychotherapy Training Institutes (EAPTIs).
- Grandparenting Procedure: This is the standard route for most IGAS registrants. It requires a formal review and recommendation from the ICP (acting as the National Awarding Organisation) and a European Wide Awarding Organisation (EWAO).
To apply via grandparenting, you must compile standard documentation, including the standard ECP CV Structure, NAO Notification Form, and the Practitioner Registration Form. For explicit guidelines and to download the latest authorized application forms, please visit the ICP ECP Certificate Hub or review official documentation standards on the EAP Website.
EAP Individual Membership:
If you wish to apply for individual membership with the European Association for Psychotherapy (EAP), the EAP Membership Committee will contact the ICP to verify your status. The ICP will formally verify that you are an active registrant in good standing and fully accredited by IGAS. General inquiries regarding individual applications can be directed to the main EAP Platform.
