Applying for Accreditation with IGAS
As a clinically accredited member, you gain the following additional benefits:
- Inclusion on the IGAS register of group analytic psychotherapists.
- Formal recognition of your qualifications and experience as a group analytic psychotherapist.
- Professional recognition under the Irish Council for Psychotherapy (ICP), including the right to use ICP after your name.
Accreditation with IGAS is for a period of five years, after which it comes up for renewal.
The due date for your renew applications is 1st September

As part of the application you will be required to upload the following documents:
For first time applications you will need:
- The School of Psychotherapy Statement of Course Completion.
- A copy of your insurance certificate.
For renewal applications you will need:
- Your supervisors’ signed declaration. (see below)
- A copy of your insurance certificate.
- Details of all your CPD training over the past five years.
Guidelines for Renewal Applications
The following guidelines apply only to renewing your accreditation.
If this is your first application for accreditation you can go directly to the application below.
Continuous Professional Development (CPD)
All applicants for reaccreditation must have continued their professional development as Group Analytic Psychotherapists.
For Clinical Accreditation:
- An average of 50 CPD points per year is required with a total of 250 CPD points over each 5-year period.
- Acceptable forms of CPD may come from any of the categories listed below.
- A maximum of 15 points can be awarded per year in all categories except for category 8.
- The CPD Points to be counted must be drawn from at least four of these categories, though they may be drawn from a larger number of categories.
- 15 CPD points per year must be taken from category 3.
For Practitioner Supervisors:
- An average of 25 CPD points per year is required with a total of 125 CPD points over each 5-year period.
- Acceptable forms of CPD may come from any of the categories listed below except category 6.
- A maximum of 10 points can be awarded per year in all categories except for category 8.
- The CPD Points to be counted must be drawn from at least three of these categories, though they may be drawn from a larger number of categories.
Copies of CPD certificates do not need uploading to the form but must be available if requested.
The CPD Categories are as follows:
Note: One hour of engagement/attendance is equivalent to 1 CPD point.
- Engagement as a client in personal therapy or group therapy or as a participant in other relevant experientially based group learning activities.
- Attendance at additional or advanced psychotherapy and related training programmes.
- Attendance at psychotherapy conferences, symposiums, lectures, workshops, seminars, reading groups or other shared learning environments that address individual and group psychotherapy and organisational theory and practice.
- Presenting at conferences, symposiums, lectures, workshops etc.
- Receiving supervision in accordance with requirements.
- Engagement in activities for or on behalf of the society e.g., committee work etc.
- Working as a supervisor or as a trainer in the field of psychotherapy or related fields that call for psychotherapeutic skills.
- Engagement in self-care and/or self-reflective activities and/or practices e.g., meditation, yoga, journaling.
- Writing and publishing articles or books relating to psychotherapy.
Example:
- One hour of engagement/attendance is equivalent to 1 CPD point. e.g., You attended the IGAS AGM and Connectedness Meeting: AGM = 1.5 CPD points Connectedness Meeting = 2 points. Attendance at both earns 3.5 CPD points.
